This design requires a sturdy wall structure (typically a timber or steel frame behind the drywall) capable of supporting the vanity weight plus the basin and contents.

Mounting heights are adjustable during installation, typically set at 800-900mm from the floor to the countertop. This flexibility allows the vanity to be positioned at the optimal height for the user, an accessibility advantage that is particularly valuable in universal design applications.

Freestanding Vanities

Freestanding vanities rest on the floor like traditional furniture. They can have legs, a plinth base, or sit directly on the floor. This category includes furniture-style vanities that resemble dressers or console tables, adding character and warmth to bathroom design.

Freestanding vanities require no special wall reinforcement and are straightforward to install. They are available in a wider range of styles, from traditional to contemporary, and can incorporate furniture-style details like turned legs, decorative hardware, and carved moldings.

Space Perception

Wall-mounted vanities make small bathrooms appear larger by revealing floor area and allowing sight lines to extend to the wall behind the vanity. This visual trick is particularly effective in compact powder rooms and en-suite bathrooms where every centimeter matters.

Freestanding vanities occupy more visual space and can make small bathrooms feel cramped. However, in larger bathrooms, a substantial freestanding vanity creates a commanding presence that anchors the room design.

Cleaning and Maintenance
